The iPhone 4 Arrives

I went to AT&T earlier to take a look at the new iPhone 4. Here are a few thoughts:

1) The hardware is great. It feels very solid, polished, and well-designed.

2) The screen is beautiful. The new Retina Display delivers, but after using a 4.3 inch screen on the EVO for a while it felt a bit small.

3) It's fast. Everything was very responsive and fast while moving through the interface.

4) The multitasking is smooth and seems to operate quite well. This has been long overdue on the iPhone.

This looks like a great smartphone if you want something easy to use and don't mind being locked into the Apple's closed ecosystem.

If you are hoping to get one, you might have to wait awhile. AT&T stores do not have units to sell until the 29th. Best Buy does not even have one on display yet. Ordering online from AT&T or Apple directly might not be much help either. The Apple website currently reports a ship date of sometime before July 14 for new orders.

iPhone 4 Launches Thursday

It's coming. The iPhone 4 will be launched this Thursday to the great delight of Apple fans everywhere. The new iPhone is the first major redesign/upgrade to the original. It features a new industrial design which is thinner than the previous models.

Other notable features include the following:

1) 960x640 screen which Apple is calling the Retina Display. This is the highest resolution screen available on a smartphone today.
2) 5 MP rear camera
3) VGA front-facing camera for video calling
4) New iOS 4 which numerous improvements including multitasking

We plan on taking a look at one later in the week and posting our thoughts after checking it out in person.

In the meantime, you can see Engadget's review for more detailed information.

3 Must-Haves for Windows PC users

Since we started The Tech Life, I have worked on countless Windows PC's. Whatever the problem may be, we usually install a few programs or applications that we believe to be the best option available for our customers. I have narrowed it down to my top 3 programs/applications that every PC owner should have.

1. Google Chrome
Chrome is a full-featured Web browser, complete with tabbed-browsing, themes and extensions. It is extremely fast compared to Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It also boasts a much cleaner interface. So if you are still using IE or Firefox, you HAVE to give Google Chrome a try. Download Chrome

2. Off-Site Backup Solution

I very rarely run across PC's with a backup solution in place. You can use some type of external media to backup your data but a couple issues arise.
- You have to remind yourself to backup regularly
- You have to keep the media in a fire-proof safe, which is not convenient.
- In the event you need to restore the data to a new PC, it can become very frustrating.

The best solution is online backup. A couple of respected companies that do this very well are Cabonite and Mozy. Why is this the best??
1. It's automatic
2. It's safe and secure
3. It's extremely reliable
4. It's inexpensive

I personally use Carbonite and it works very well and gives me peace of mind.

Get Carbonite
Get Mozy

3. Free Anti-Virus Program

So many people pay for their anti-virus programs, and most PC's come pre-loaded with a free trial that will ask for your money after 30 days if you want to stay protected. Why pay when there are awesome FREE alternatives?? Well, frankly, you probably didn't know they existed.

Here are just a few:

AVG Free Anti-Virus

Microsoft Security Essentials

Avira AntiVir Personal

Avast Free AntiVirus

Any of these will work great for you at NO COST!!! So dump Internet Explorer, backup your precious data, and protect yourself for free.

Get to downloading!!!!

HTC EVO 4G on Sprint

Sprint has released what is arguably the most powerful smartphone yet - the HTC EVO 4G. Of course, at the current rate of progression in this market, this title will not last very long.

This phone is a geek's dream, and the spec list reads almost like a wishlist of high-end phone hardware - 4.3 inch 800x480 screen, 1 GHz processor, 8 MP rear camera, 1.3 MP front camera, 4G data, and more.

I've been using the EVO personally for nearly 2 weeks now, and I like it a good bit. It's fast, powerful, and has a wonderful large screen. Of course, no phone is perfect. The large screen makes the device a bit large and heavy. I would prefer a physical keyboard over the virtual keyboard. Also, the Android operating system is powerful but not the most elegant or easy to use.

If you want to know more, check out this guide to everything EVO at androidcentral.com or the EVO page at sprint.com.
